I’m a sucker for handmade cards. I enjoy sending them out for every holiday and occasion. Thanksgiving is no exception to the rule and in my opinion, a must have – to remind people how blessed you are to have them in your life.
Now that Lil Man is getting older and family is so far away – family members really love getting cards that involve the little guy. I usually send out tons of pictures but also crafts that Lil Man has done are another thing I like to send out.
A handprint craft/card is perfect for us to make {getting craft time together} but it’s also great for family members because they get to see how much he has grown.
So that is the main reason why we made these Thanksgiving cards recently. They have a theme of a turkey and are just plain cute. These cards have “gobble gobbled” their way into my heart and I hope yours too.
Here is how you can make your own with your child:
* Cardstock
* Paints {Brown, Red, Orange}
* Paint Brush
* Sharpie
* Baby Wipes
* Wiggle Eyes
* White School Glue/Glue Stick
* Embellishments for card – stamps, ink, pop up dots etc
Now the direction you take this craft – is totally up to you. We turned our turkey prints into cards but you don’t necessarily have to. If you like – you can make turkeys on a canvas or paper to frame. Be creative!
* If you are going to make cards – first cut and fold your cardstock for the cards. Set aside a cut piece for your handprint.
* Paint your child’s handprint and press onto the set aside piece of cardstock. Let dry completely.
* Once dry – add the turkey embellishments. The thumb is the head of the turkey – while the other fingers are the feathers. Glue on the eyes and paint on the additional parts. Don’t forget the legs!
* Once done – glue your card together and add your sentiments.
And that’s how you “gobble gobble” your way into some Thanksgiving themed cards. If you feel really creative, you can paint each finger a different color and leave the inside of the hand – brown.
