GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police have a unique gift idea as they step up drunk driving enforcement for the holidays.
Police want you to give the gift of a sober lift this Christmas. A free designated driver gift card.
The inside of the gift card reads: Your own sober sleigh ride. Enjoy the gift of a safe lift and celebrate the holiday in style. On the other side of the card you can personalize who the card is to and from under the line that reads: I merrily offer my designated driving services.
From Dec. 16 until Jan. 1, officers from police departments, sheriff’s offices and the Michigan State Police will step up drunk driving enforcement across the state as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
According to a release from the MSP, there were 27 traffic fatalities during the 2014 Christmas and 2014/2015 New Year’s holidays. Five of the fatal crashes involved alcohol and nine of those killed were not wearing a seat belt.
