For Sale: With Love From New

Sa'fyre Terry, 8, isSanta’s not the only one expecting mail this year.

An 8-year-old New York girl who suffered severe burns in a May 2013 arson fire that killed her family has asked for one Christmas gift: holiday cards for her card tree.

Little Sa’fyre Terry will soon fill up the card tree because nearly four dozen Merry Christmas notes have shown up at her door, her aunt and caretaker Liz Dolder told the Daily News Tuesday night.Sa'fyre lost her father and three siblings in an unsolved 2013 arson fire in Schenectady, N.Y., and she now lives with her aunt and uncle and their two twins in nearby Rotterdam. And, thanks to a charity, Sa’fyre and her adoptive family are heading to Walt Disney World, Dolder said.

“It’s magical, ” said Dolder. “You always hear about those horrible things happening. And for this to happen - it restores your faith in humanity.”

Sa'fyre Terry, 8, is "walking on air" as Christmas cards pour in for her, her aunt told the Daily News. This message shows the good cheer already flowing to the courageous little girl. Sa'fyre lost her father and three siblings in an unsolved 2013 arson fire in Schenectady, N.Y., and she now lives with her aunt and uncle and their two twins in nearby Rotterdam.

Sa’fyre now lives with her aunt and uncle and their twins in Rotterdam in the Albany area after the unsolved arson blaze in nearby Schenectady killed her father, her young sister and her two toddler brothers, Dolder said.

Her father, David Terry, died shielding Sa’fyre from the flames, but 75% of the girl’s body was burned and she later had to have her right hand and left foot amputated. Sa’fyre has to undergo regular skin graft operations until she grows up, and Dolder and her husband Michael think he lost his longtime job this year because he missed work to take her for the treatments.

Sa’fyre is already well-known in the area, having recently sat by Santa with Dolder’s 8-year-old twins, Jacob and Jasmine, in the yearly holiday parade run by The Daily Gazette of Schenectady.
